Lay Ecclesial Ministry Study

In 2011, the Collegeville National Symposium on Lay Ecclesial Ministry awarded the Canon Law Society of America a $5,000 research grant. Since that time, in collaboration with the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA), the Society has conducted a study of seventy-five Arch/dioceses on their policies and procedures for the authorization of lay ecclesial ministers. When the study concluded, a CLSA work group was appointed to report and comment on the results, with the intention of further promoting the development of lay ecclesial ministry in the Church.

The 2011 symposium provided a wonderful opportunity for CLSA delegates to engage in dialogue with representatives of St. John’s School of Theology and numerous other Catholic organizations in the United States. The Society remains grateful to have been part of this undertaking.
